Port Augusta residents will no longer be able to dump televisions and computers for free, as a result of funding cuts to the e-waste recycling program. The program is no longer operating due to "significant issues" over the past year, according to waste management services. The free e-waste recycling service had been running at the local Resource Recovery Centre for some years, allowing locals to dispose of certain electronic items free of charge. However the company which operates Port Augusta's waste management service, Transpacific Cleanaway, pulled the pin on the program some time ago.

Cleanaway acting general manager for South Australia Christopher Ashton said Transpacific would like the free service to continue, but right now it's not possible. Port Augusta City Council chief executive officer John Banks said council was not made aware of the program cut.

Up until last week the e-waste program was still listed as a free service to Port Augusta residents on council's website. The termination of the program will no longer see televisions, computers, keyboards, mice, towers, laptops, printers, and scanners as free to dump at the Resource Recovery Centre on Footner Road.
