I decided to check it out for myself.. I was very impressed. Quite frankly, anyone who complains about Caringbah must have led a very sheltered life. The main shopping area is not daggy and run down I had no hesitation in signing a lease on an apartment right on kingsway. I love it.

Contrary to some of the comments, it's a great place to raise kids, even now. Not too many areas that you still see children riding their bikes around the neighbourhood without the danger of some idiot hitting them. After my travelling, I married and settled in Caringbah South. Both areas have great schools for the kids, friendly neighbourhoods and just a general feeling of knowing that you living somewhere that very, very rarely has made the media for any reason.
Close to the beach and the lovely Pt Hacking , what more could you ask. There are plenty of eateries in Caringbah. Maybe not top notch, but family friendly. I hear the odd siren, but it's usually an ambulance, and probably on its way to help someone, because of the proximity to Sutherland Hospital. Another bonus to all age groups.
Not because of any violence. My son now lives close to the Kingsway and he does'nt not feel any trepidation where he is. Maybe some people look for the worst?

I think we live in great part of Sydney. Hey I can think of hundreds of places I would rather not live in. Yes, there can be some drawbacks, but overall, its safe and friendly. I return there to visit friends and family every chance I get. I intend to return to Caringbah 'for good' one day, and will retire in the street where I grew up.
Caringbah was very 'suburban' in the 60's, 70's and 80's and became a desirable green space to move to from the mini-ghettos developing in the city's west and southwest. The suburb has recovered well from that hiccup and is now very much 'des. From the north side, heavily industrialised and with high-density shopping, to the leafy, green, quiet suburban havens in the south, Caringbah is everything you want to make of it.

Its not too loud, not too quiet, not too busy, not too peaceful. I love Caringbah. Cons Northside is still the 'downside' would advise to keep away from the flats west of the station. I've lived here for eight years now and can realize it can be sometimes scary at night, especially in north caringbah. Busy sometimes while I usually commute out of the city and find that out, and a lot of people a moving here, so maybe im incorrect about the first line so hope this helps, good luck.

Cons Not as peaceful as other suburbs in the shire People not that welcoming. Caringbah's main Street has great Restaurants, Banks, Post office. Transport is a plus, Caringbah Bus Company opperates the local service, Timetable runs in well with the trains, Caringbah station has had a upgrade, Wheelchair accessable! Cons would advise to keep away from the flats west of the station.
Easy trips to town although the train trip is slow for the more up-market restaurants and wine bars. And local pool at Lilli Pilli, and quick trip to Cronulla beaches. I have frequently left my house unlocked latchkey kids! Quite bemused by previous review of lawlessness - perhaps would advise to keep away from the flats west of the station.
Recommended for Professionals Families with kids Retirees. The Caringbah Inn has a great counter meal for the family. Close to transport and great schools. There are plenty of places to get a good coffee. Easy access to the water ways. Aware of the huge influence journalists have on public opinion and coupled with the threats to her wellbeing, McClymont exemplified this balance presenting the facts with sensitivity, accuracy and fairness. Not only is she a first-class journalist, what is generally not known is she is a raconteur par excellence. He could not because the closing date for nominations for applications was before the fires began. Because of the number of times her name was mentioned during the Canberra Australia Day event, even being uttered by the Governor-General, I suppose I must reluctantly welcome Sarah Moany into the vernacular. We lost a shed and a lot of our long-established gardens and trees but we were very fortunate to still have our house untouched.
But even we were daunted by the amount of clean-up work needed. Our little two-hectare lot is about 80 per cent damaged by fire. We have had the assistance of the army in recent days. With no tools of our own all lost in the shed fire we had no way of even beginning the work. We also had little enthusiasm for what seemed to us to be an overwhelming task.
But, in the space of a couple of sessions over a few days, our Army Reserve completed what would have taken us months. Their efforts, all done with a smile, have lifted our spirits. No doubt the community here will have many testing months ahead, but with the support of army, and countless community groups and other assistance from government, we can at least see better days coming. I just want a return to normality. There are countless people in a worse position than us.
I only hope that the support we have experienced can be maintained for our communities well after the fires are finally extinguished. As for the personnel who helped us so wonderfully this week, I can offer only our heartfelt thanks.
